Snow-capped alps, crystal clear lakes and waterfalls, forests, caves and a sliver of Adriatic coastline -
Slovenia offers it all. The saying that good things come in small packages really holds true for this small
gem of Central Europe.

The capital and largest city of Slovenia, Ljubljana is a city destined to find a place in every traveler's
heart. Crowned by the Ljubljanski Grad Castle, Ljubljana has a charming old town built alongside the
Ljubljanica River. See the architectural masterpieces of Jože Plecnik, such as the Tromostovje or triple bridge,
visit the town square named for Slovenia's national hero, the poet France Prešeren, and stroll through the
picturesque Tivoli Park.
Our favorite experience:
No trip to Ljubljana is complete without enjoying the city's café culture. Sit outside by the river and enjoy a
great coffee and some ice cream while watching the beautiful locals strolling through town.

Separating Slovenia from Austria are the majestic Julian Alps. Resting at the foot of the alps is one of
Slovenia's most famous attractions, Lake Bled. Possibly one of the most picture perfect sights in all of
Europe, Lake Bled is bordered by an old stone fortress and a beautiful lakeside promenade. In the center
of the lake, the baroque Church of the Assumption appears to float on its tiny island. Other things to see
include the less touristy Lake Bohinj, the Soca River Valley with it's almost supernaturally blue water,
and the World War I museum in the village of Kobarid, voted one of Europe's best museums.

The Northeastern portion of Slovenia is known for its wine, beer and history. Visit the ancient cities of
Celje and Ptuj to learn more about the origins of the Slovenian nation. The second largest city in
Slovenia, Maribor, is also located in this region.
Our favorite experience:
Visit the cellars in Slovenia's oldest city, Ptuj, and enjoy tasting some of the region's most celebrated wines.

Southern Slovenia is famous for its beautiful scenery both above and belowground. The vineyards, olive groves
and beaches are bathed in the Adriatic sun, while the more than six thousand caves offer a cool, mysterious
and breathtaking escape from the summer heat. It is here that you can visit Postojnska Jama, the largest
network of caves in the world open to the public, and the Lipica Stud Farm, home of the famous white Lipizzaner Stallions.
